Auburn Meet

The senior boys having fun at the Auburn meet, Chris McAlpin, Sean Moriarty, Noah Price and Kyle Norris.  CSA had a great turn out for the meet especially with the older swimmers, how long has it been since we had so many 15-18 guys?

All the CSA swimmers had a great meet with many personal bests and great races.  The 9-10 girls continued their fast swimming with more SES cut times achieved.

Reese McNeel led all the swimmers from Cullman with fine performances in all her events.  The highlight of the meet for CSA had to be her 50 butterfly race where she finished 2nd crushing the Age-Group Sectional cut time.  As I always say you want to get those times early in the season, taking the pressure off and then working on improving.  Congratulations to all the swimmers.

Reese is happy about her race!

CSA Opens with Cuts!

Kyle Norris getting ready for one of his races at the HSA meet. Cullman swimmers "Showed Up" and had a great meet.  We had record numbers with 29 swimmers competing well up from last year.

CSA started the season with several swimmers getting cut times in the first meet.  Its always a good thing to get those SES cuts early so it takes some pressure off and then you can work on improving.  Those making SES cut times were Reese McNeel, Claire Ogstad, Reagan Martin and Bennett Glasscock.  Sean Moriarty, Noah Price and Sara Peel made AHSAA cut times.  With a month of swimming behind us it was time for a meet and not only these swimmers but many CSA swimmers had best times.

A little inter team rivaly with Sean Moriarty of Saint Bernard Prep School vs Noah Price of Cullman High School.  All Fun!

State Swim Meet 2012

At the 2012 State Swim Meet, Cullman Swim Team was lead by Sara Peel who capped off an incredible record breaking summer with a state title.  Sara was first in the 11-12 breaststroke, second in the individual medley and third in the long freestyle.  All the hard work definitely paid off for her.

Keelie Balch concentrating before her race.  Keelie was one of the new stars of Cullman Swimming

Another rising star is Ellijah Price.  He had a strong state and set several team records this summer.

Anna Evans prepares for the relay.  Another great summer for her with many great races and a strong state meet.

Welcome back Colby, what else can be said?  Colby Hutson had a super summer, breaking a 30 year old butterfly record for 11-12 boys.

Reese McNeel getting ready for her backstroke.  Reese who is only 9 broke another ancient record (9-10 girls backstroke) and she has another year to go in 9-10. Wow!

Cullman Swim Team had a very successful season with a strong showing at the state swim meet.  Congratulations to all the swimmers for a super season.

CST Tidal Wave!

Cullman Swim Team cruised right through the dual meet season.  Great fun for the swimmers and very fast times.

Alumni night was the Jasper/Sheffield meet.  Coach Allison, Coach Laura, Hannah Donaldson and Alex Clark teamed up for a relay.  Pretty tough, they can still do it.

Don Green speaks at alumni night, Coach is the former mayor (his administration built the new pool) and also former head coach of CSTs first team.  He spoke to the crowd talking of the program and the changes over the years.

Elijah Price has had a great season, he hit the record books with a 11-12 boys record in the Individual Medley (So Far!)

Claire Ogstad getting ready for the breaststroke.  Being 9 hasn't made much difference in her winning.

Callie Hollingsworth has been one of the fast swimmers this summer.  Callie aged up to 13-14 and is
a threat in the freestyle and breaststroke events.

Here is the latest great article by the Cullman Times:

Colby breaks 30 year old record!

Colby Hutson broke a 30 year old Cullman Swim Team record.  He broke swim dad Jay Pages record in the 11-12 boys 50 butterfly.  Congrats to Colby, there has been some fine swimmers pass thru CST in 30 years and none have been able to break this elusive record.

Next up for CST is Madison, whew will be a fast meet with the strongest team in the state invading the CWAC.

Cullman swept thru a series of dual meets, below are the links for Cullman Times.  Great coverage by the Times.

Cullman Dunks Scottsboro!

The coaches go for a well deserved swim!

The Cullman Swim Team Coaches went for a well deserved dunk themselves Tuesday night after a great and long time coming victory over Scottsboro Swim Association.  CST coaches are L-R Laura Evans, Lisa Martin and Allison Norris.  We have been so lucky to have consistency in our coaching which has included knowledge and planning of competitive swimming, meets and the season.  Congratulations coaches job well done.

Here is a link to today's recap of the meet from the Cullman Times.

CST Starts Season FAST!

Cullman Swim Team opened the dual meet season against powerhouse Madison Dolphins.  Both teams with lots of swimmers on vacation, showed some strength.  CST is fast out of the gate this year with many team records broken in just the first meet.

Notable performances by Sawyer Trimble, Reese McNeel, Keelie Balch, Sara Peel, Adora Ralph, Colby Hutson, Eric Pilcher and 9-10 and 11-12 girls relays (just to name a few).

The lights went out for a few minutes so the spirit of MST came out.  The coaches got up in the dark and did a go go version of the Macarena.

Michelle Pilcher had a great night swimming strong in all her events.  She was a triple winner in individual events.  Fantastic, always enjoy seeing those smiles.

Next up for CST is Scottsboro, will be another competitive and fun night with more fast swimming.

CSA Awards

.

Cullman Swim Association held its annual awards party with some nice hardware being distributed.  CSA had more swimmers make it to Southeasterns this year, a number that will continue to grow!  The team was lead this year by Sara Peel and Reese McNeel who both qualified for Southeasterns and Sectionals.  The record book was rewritten this year another trend we coaches like to see.

Congratulations to the entire CSA Team for a great season!

Spring Training!

Cullman swimmers got back in the pool, this week beginning "Spring Training".  The swimmers all enjoyed a nice break after the grueling USA season which ended a month ago with Districts, Southeasterns and Sectionals.

Allison Norris will be head coach again this summer and Lisa Martin the assistant.  CST will be breaking the number of swimmers records in addition to times.  Last summer CST peaked out with 130 swimmers.

Lets Get into Shape to Get into Shape!

Southeasterns 2012

Cullman Swim Association sent six swimmers to the 2012 Southeastern Swimming Championships at the University of Tennessee.  These are the stars of the season, so tough to qualify and quite an achievement.

I always try to put together a video summary of Southeasterns. Its getting more complicated and taking up more mega bytes which is a great problem to have.  More swimmers every year!

Good luck to Reese McNeil and Sarah Peel, both qualified for USA Eastern Sectionals in Greensboro North Carolina.  Becoming a tradition at CSA.

Cullman Swimmers Head to Southeasterns!

Keelie Balch was one of the CSA swimming stars this past weekend at the District Swimming Championships in Tuscaloosa.  She swam a fantastic race in the 100 Butterfly.  She now joins Reagan and Reese competing in the 9-10 girls division in Knoxville at 2012 Southeastern Swimming Championships this weekend.

CSA swam so strong as a team at Districts and was lead by Claire Ogstad who once again dominating the 8-under girls (there are no SES time standards for 8-unders).  All of the swimmers dropped precious time in most their events with several just missing the super fast cut times.  Some were real heartbreakers.

CSA Qualifiers for Southeastern Swimming Championships are:

Reese McNeil: 50 Backstroke
Keelie Balch: 100 Butterfly
Reagan Martin: 100 Butterfly
Ellijah Price: 50 Backstroke, 100 Backstroke, 200 IM
Sarah Peel: 50 Breaststroke, 100 Breaststroke, 100 IM
Bennett Glasscock: 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 200 Backstroke, 100 Breastroke, 100 Butterfly, 200 IM.

Great job for all CSA swimmers!

Reese makes the Big Dance!

Reese McNeil is going to Knoxville!  She swam a great 50 Backstroke at the HSA meet and zapped the cut time for 9-10 girls qualifying her for the 2012 Southeastern Swimming Championships.  Oh by the way she just turned 9.

She will join the rest of CSA at the District Championships in Tuscaloosa next weekend.  This will be a last chance for swimmers to make the super competitive cut times for SES.

This video showed up on the internet of CSA coach Glen Pilcher, the swimmers didn't know that one of their coaches was a celebrity, HA!  Good interview...

Reagan Torpedos SES Cut!

Reagan Martin swam an incredible 100 Butterfly at EXCEL this past weekend qualifying for the 2012 Southeastern Swimming Championships.  Reagan placed 3rd in the 9-10 girls 100 Butterfly race.  She represents the program at CSA showing that coming to practice and working hard pays off.  What is so special about Reagan is she is only 9.

Reagan now joins Bennett, Sarah and Elijah in Knoxville at the end of February.  SES will be at the great new facility at the University of Tennessee.  CSA will be swimming in two more meets leading up to SES, maybe a few more qualifiers?

CSA Open Second Session On Fire!

What does Sarah Peel and Claire Ogstad do after successful weekends at swim meets? They get right back to work training.  Sarah and Claire are swimming record setting times this season and its still a month from the championship phase.

Sarah swam this past weekend at the Baylor/Nike Invitational and added another Southeastern and Sectional cut in the breaststroke.

Claire swam at the Hoover Long Shot Meet and while setting team records in several events also picked up another highpoint trophy for the meet.  Claire had personal bests in several events.

The CSA swimmers saw time improvements, showing what hard work and persistence will do for them.

Sarah Peel after winning and making her Sectional cut in Breaststroke giving rival Annabelle King of MSA a "high five"!.

Elijah Price had a great meet at Baylor making several SES cuts.  He has been working hard and it showed.  Mr. Price has shown great form this season and look for him at Sectionals.

The next meet for the CSA team will be EXCEL Mardi Gras in Nashville.  Its a great meet and lets keep the momentum going!
